C. elegans Behavior & Phenotyping

Lipid Storage

The balance between lipid storage and utilization is an organism-wide process involving behavior, metabolism and signaling.

Lipid Storage Analysis. Wild-type C. elegans stained with RediStain Lipid Green show lipid accumulation in the intestine and epidermis.

  • APPLICATIONS

Lipid storage diseases such as Niemann-Pick are commonly studied in C. elegans.

  • ASSAY DESCRIPTION

Animals are stained with RediStain Lipid Green, a lipophilic fluorophore that tracks lipids inside C. elegans. When using Lipid Green, native lipid droplet morphology is preserved and fat content per body volume is quantified in individual worms.

  • DATA COLLECTED

Images of lipid droplets and quantification of fluorescence for 10 worms/condition are collected.
