C. elegans Behavior & Phenotyping

Morphology Analysis

Measurements of animal size and body shape is a key characteristic and can be affected by neuronal signaling, metabolism, and developmental regulation.

Morphology Data. Day 1 adult size differences in clinical variants of hSTXBP1. The R406H and R122X variants show a significant reduction  in size from the wild-type hSTXBP1 line.

  • APPLICATIONS

Can be used to study aging, muscle function, neuronal signaling and human diseases such as Epilepsy, ALS, and Alzheimer's.

  • ASSAY DESCRIPTION

Video is recorded of worms over a 10-minute period and data is collected on each worm for 8 aspects of morphology including length, area, and curvature. Often combined with movement analysis.

  • DATA COLLECTED

The common dataset includes three biological replicates of ten worms each recorded for ten minutes. Data is analyzed using an ANOVA test with multiple comparisons. Principal component analysis is also used for better data visualization.
