C. elegans Behavior & Phenotyping Capabilities

C. elegans Behavior & Phenotyping

Movement Analysis

Analysis of C. elegans movement behavior can be used to quantify neuromuscular activity.

Movement Data. Forward speed is reduced with age. Significant difference seen between day 1 (D1) and day 8 (D8) for both wildtype (WT) and knockout (KO) strains.

  • APPLICATIONS

Can be used to study aging, muscle function, neuronal signaling and human diseases such as Epilepsy, ALS, and Alzheimer's.

  • ASSAY DESCRIPTION

Video is recorded of worms over a 10-minute period and data is collected on each worm for 16 aspects of movement including forward speed, reverse speed, and activity. Often combined with morphological analysis.

  • DATA COLLECTED

The common dataset includes three biological replicates of ten worms each recorded for 10 minutes. Data is analyzed using an ANOVA test with multiple comparisons. Principal component analysis is also used for better data visualization.
